There have been no suspected Covid-19 cases detected among 30,000 devotees from the Masi Magam Theppa Thirunal at the Singamugha Kaliamman Temple in Teluk Bahang, said Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow. The event was held on March 8th, a week after the Ijtimak Tabligh assembly at the Sri Petaling mosque in Kuala Lumpur.

“They (the state health authorities) are closely monitoring the situation. Until now, there is no report of Covid-19 cases among the devotees in attendance,” Chow said.

Malaysian Hindu Sangam recently advised devotees who attended the festival to get tested for the coronavirus if they are showing symptoms related to Covid-19.

More than 30,000 people thronged the temple on the 8th of March, with temple committee chairman A. Kanapathy saying that the festival attracted devotees and visitors from all over the country including neighbouring countries, The Star reported.

Meanwhile, the Penang Hindu Endowment Board (PHEB) advised all temples in the state to suspend or cancel any public gathering events in the state.
