14 people were having a birthday party in full swing at a condominium in Penang amidst the nationwide Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

The gathering was raided at midnight, just as the group of 13 men and one woman – aged between 28 and 32 – was about to cut the birthday cake.

When questioned at the scene, they admitted to assembling at the condominium unit to celebrate the birthday of one of their members. Police found that no social distancing was observed at the gathering.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor confirmed the arrests.

The case is being investigated under Rules 7 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.
