Dhaanniya Marry Andrew has clinched the tittle for the 3rd consecutive year for the National Poetry Recitation competition. The standard six student from Sekolah Kebangsaan Subang Jaya won the top prize in the competition under (primary school category) organised by the Ministry of Education (MOE).

She defeated the rest of the 15 contestants by delivering her recitation of the poem titled “Be Like the Bees” which was penned by her coach Sharmila Ramachandran. Her coach’s support and encouragement alongside her mother Visalatchi for being a source of inspiration to Andrew, led to her win.

This year, the prestigious competition was part of the Karnival Perpaduan Bahasa Inggeris 2020, with the slogan “One for All, All for One.”

The root of culture is oral traditions. In addition, the brilliant students not only spoke eloquently and boldly in front of a packed crowd but reminded us of the spoken word that can help provoke, inspire at the same time unite oneself to another.

Nevertheless, the purpose of organising a poetry recitation competition is to promote poetry among primary and secondary school students. It is known as the nationwide competition and helps to engage students through poetry in an understanding of the beauty of words, thus instilling a sense of faith in the art of public speaking.

Well done, Dhaanniya! We look forward to forging an even bigger future, by moulding tomorrow’s leaders through the national competition!
