An audacious mother-of-four had taken a leap of faith by pursuing her studies with hundreds of young students to fulfil her dream on becoming a qualified nurse.

Kousalya Selvakumar, now 34, were among the hundreds of students who embarked on pursuing her higher education at the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) by enrolling in the two-year Nitec course in nursing.

Yet, it sounds overwhelming on just the thought of going back to school to further one’s studies in their 30s. Life at this point in life is certainly more difficult than it was in your 20s. The expectations on being a student at the same time balancing a job and career can be back-breaking exhausting, what more with juggling a family at the same time.

She had the utmost support from her husband, Chithravel Pandy, who works as an operation manager in a logistics company. When she was busy with her studies, he was the sole breadwinner around the house, including caring for the twins.

This picture sums it up perfectly:

She managed to score well in every semester at ITE College East in Simei, and made herself to the Director’s List. It’s a great achievement as she graduated with a Merit Certificate and a grade point average of 3.8, which qualified Kousalya to further her studies to the second year of the Ngee Ann Polytechnic nursing programme diploma.

For sure, her children are proud of their mother — Surendra, 18, Dhanvin, 10, Davitha, 8, and Vinayak, 6.

It will quite rightly be one of the proudest moments of her life!
