Take Note Parents; School As Usual For Students Undergoing Major Exams This Year!

The Education Ministry (MOE) has come out with a guideline and standard operating procedure (SOP) regarding school management and measures to curb the spread of Covid-19 amongst school students.

All the school’s entry points will have hand sanitisers and temperature thermal scanning. Schools have been required to draw markings on the floor in staff rooms, office areas, library, cafeteria, and even plan classroom seating appropriately to ensure that a physical distance of 6 feet is retained.

Face-to-face learning and learning sessions are only available to students taking major exams for the 2020 and 2021 sessions, namely:

  • Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)
  • Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM)
  • Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM)
  • Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM)
  • Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM)
  • Diploma Vokasional Malaysia (DVM)
  • Equivalent international examinations

Let’s take a look at guidelines for schools under the Movement Control Order (MCO) zones such as Selangor, Melaka, Johor, Pulau Pinang, Sabah and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan.

The measures that are suggested by the Education Ministry (MOE) can be summarised in key points below:

  • Fully-residential school students and students staying in school hostels will return to hostels from 16th January onwards. 
  • Primary school students and high school students (Form 1- Form 4) will attend online classes.
  • Teachers are expected to return by 20th January to their work stations. 
  • In order to perform face-to-face teaching and learning, teachers who are involved with the SPM/SVM/SKM/STPM/STAM/DVM exams for the 2020 and 2021 sessions must be present at schools. 
  • Matriculation college students already in their colleges are expected to begin hybrid lessons at their respective colleges.
  • All programs at the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) are required to join online lessons from 17th January onwards. 
  • Private kindergartens registered under the Ministry of Education (MOE) will operate as usual.

Schools under the Control Movement Control Order (CMCO) zones such as Kedah, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan and following with the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) zones such as Perlis and Sarawak: 

According to their respective academic schedules, all educational institutions under the ministry, private educational institutions, and schools registered under MOE will operate as usual. 

Schools that are not registered under MOE, including those under state governments, are to comply with the rules set out by the ministry.
