Our youngsters nowadays are more creative and unique in generating narratives. Hence, they delve into the art of short films which, inspired by their passion for cinema, are also beginning to make a mark in film festivals across the nation.
Helmed and penned by Shashikalah Mahalinggam, Mr Husband features a strong cast namely Anand Pillai Shamugam, Chandrika Dewahar, and Pushpavathi Teruvengguram.
Uploaded on SM Studio’s official YouTube channel, it’s a simple concept executed quite beautifully — portraying newly married Bharathi who has the support of her mother-in-law, to pursue an independent life. Tremendous of positive compliments were received on the YouTube channel and all I can say is this flawless short film is certainly a must watch for everyone especially men.
Mr Husband has proved that not every project needs to be highly narrative. Yet, as you can see in the short film above, a simple plot is all that is required to build a good story. And the director has nailed it!
Perhaps my favourite part in this short film was how the mother-in-law changed her son’s mind by allowing his wife to go to work.
