At the beginning of the year, we always look forward to the first wave of Tamil movies set for Ponggal release.
This year, we’re in tremendous luck as we have at least 5 to 8 brand new, star-studded, action-packed movies hitting the cinema in January.
First up, we have Thaana Serntha Koottam, starring Suriya and Keerty Suresh. An Anirudh musical and directed by Vignesh Shivn, Thaana Serndha Kootam is slated to be Suriya’s 35th film. Veteran actors Ramya Krishnan, Karthik, and comedian Senthil will also make appearances in the movie.

Next up, we have Prabhu Deva’s Gulaebaghavali, an action-packed film written and directed by Kalyaan. With Prabhu Deva as the hero and Vivek-Mervin as the music director, the film is already ranking high on everyone’s must-watch list.

Sketch is an action thriller film written and directed by Vijayachander, featuring Vikram in the leading role. In this film we see Vikram eschew his clean-shaven facade to opt for a full-blown beard to better suit his character, much like his ‘Gemini’ days. The film also sees Tamannaah and Sri Priyanka in leading roles.

Tik Tik Tik, which is receiving a lot of hype as India’s first ever space movie. The movie stars Jayam Ravi and Nivetha Pethuraj in leading roles. Directed by Shakti Soundar Rajan, ‘Tik Tik Tik’ revolves around a magician-cum-illusionist who is hired to fix a debacle in space.

Another movie that is aiming to push boundaries, Irumbuthirai – directed by P. S. Mithran – revolves around the information technology and the consequences of having all your personal information available online. The film features Vishal and Arjun in a leading role, alongside Samantha. Yuvan Shankar Raja is also onboard as music director.
