As we all know, the death of Dr Sasi Kumar made headlines after Director General of Health, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah took to social media to express his grief.

My deepest condolences to Dr Sasi’s family. A great loss for the pulmonology fraternity and country. A very passionate and dedicated pulmonologist, brilliant in his work and humble in his approach to his patients. pic.twitter.com/Cv1IUzy6zs

Right after the post, Malaysians had started making assumptions by spreading and even going to the extend in creating fake news about the death of the late doctor. Hence, Kuala Muda district deputy police chief Supt Anuar Abdul Rahman stepped up to clear the air on speculations over his passing.

Dr Sasi who worked as a pulmonologist stationed in Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah, Alor Setar died on 3rd August after he collapsed in front of his house.

According to the post-mortem report, the 37-year-old doctor died on his way to the hospital and it was not due to COVID-19 or exhaustion but cardiac arrest.

The COVID-19 test was done on the late doctor and it turned out to be negative. It’s been only eight months since Dr Sasi started his job at the hospital. The late doctor was very much liked by his colleagues, patients and the community. He was passionate about his field of specialisation and losing such an amazing doctor in such an unexpected way is saddening indeed.

We at Varnam urge Malaysians to stop speculating on the passing of the doctor and respect the privacy of his family members.

May your soul rest in peace Dr Sasi.
