Hemarashzvinie; “I Will Cry Alone, So That My Parents Won’t Cry Along With Me”

Let’s do our part, in order for this young lass to receive the medical treatment that she deserves.

Our early twenties are nearly likely to be the finest period of our lives, filled with boundless energy and dreams of what we can and aspire to achieve.

However, Hemarashzvinie has been spending her youth battling a rare form of illness to which it’s grave side effects result in her having uncontrollable shaky legs, to make matters worse, she is also slowly losing her eyesight. In December 2019, Hema’s life turned into a nightmare after her parents noticed that her legs were shivering.

The parents decided to consult a medical officer on their daughter’s current state of health. They were then advised to send her for a further check-up. After doing an MRI test, the doctor revealed that Hema’s spinal cord was swollen. That’s a lot to take in for any parent, especially when you’re worried sick about your child’s health condition.

With a long process and explanation, the 19-year-old has been receiving treatment at the Universiti of Malaya hospital. Unfortunately, her treatment will also not come cheap. The family is in dire need of funds for her ongoing treatment.

In order to enquire more on Hema’s treatment costs, Team Varnam spoke to her father, Mr Rajendran.

Currently, we were informed by the hospital that Hema’s medical bills will cost approximately RM 400, 000. This could be the toughest hurdle of our lives as from the diagnosis to the surgery and the post-treatment care, we are financially, physically, and emotionally drained at the moment.

Hema dreams of becoming a pharmacist but her current condition suppresses her desire to further her studies. To our surprise, the brilliant young lass obtained excellent results with 9A’s 2B’s in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination. However, it’s devastating to watch someone so young as Hema go through so much pain, but it’s also inspiring to see her positivity and her will power to recover.

Of course, none of this should mean that pursuing your dreams isn’t worthwhile; in fact, the experience of pursuing your dreams is frequently more rewarding and illuminating than achieving your dreams.

To our dearest Hema, we’re in this together with you. Don’t give up on your dreams, and stay strong as this too shall pass.

Let’s do our part, in order for her to receive the medical treatment that she deserves.

Those keen to chip in a small amount of money to ease their burden of a hefty hospital bill, don’t hesitate to channel it via Hema’s dad’s HSBC Account 342221140025 (Rajendran V Doresamy) or Hema’s BSN Account – 0410041100009993 ( Hemarashvinie Rajendran).

Every prayer and donation will help the family through this period.

Special thanks to Mr Vanan who brought Hema’s issue to light!
