Malaysia reached the 40% milestone of total population vaccination on August 22, ahead of South Korea and Australia, which began their coronavirus vaccine rollouts around the same time as Malaysia.
More than 44.6 percent of our population has been fully vaccinated, and we are on our way to becoming a fully immunised nation against the dangerous virus, COVID-19.
However, some of our netizens are still hesitant and are unaware of the importance of this vaccination for a safer tomorrow. According to Astro Awani, a 104-year-old woman was witnessed receiving the COVID-19 vaccination at a private hospital yesterday.
Despite her limited mobility and old age, the 104-year-old did not hesitate to get vaccinated on the advice of her family.
Letchemy, an elderly lady from Assam Kumbang, was taken to the hospital’s Vaccination Center (PPV) with his two grandchildren to receive the first dose of Pfizer vaccine.
Her grandson, Dr. K. Thangamani, 59, stated that after being adviced by family members, his grandmother understood the purpose of the COVID-19 vaccine injection.
Dr. K. Thangamani, Medical Officer of the Taiping Health Clinic, stated that his family members always alerted his grandmother about the progress and importance of the COVID-19 vaccine so that she agreed to receive it.
“We often show and explain to him about COVID-19 disease and to defend ourselves from COVID-19, the government provides a vaccine.
“In fact we showed the media report to the grandmother, so the grandmother understood and agreed until we got the date (injection) today.
“So far, my grandmother is okay. I am very happy after my grandmother received this vaccine to protect herself and her family because the presence of my grandmother is very important for us as a family, ”said Dr K. Thangamani.
Dr K. Thangamani who has been taking care of K. Letchemy for the past 20 years admitted he was very relieved and happy that his beloved grandmother had received protection.
He claims that his grandmother, who is also a retired rubber tapper on a private estate and is 104 years old, has no history of dangerous diseases.
Now, apart from the SOPs and social distancing, vaccination plays a great role towards our nation’s immunization goal. Vaccination is now very crucial not only for our own safety, but also to ensure that we have a fully immunised world which is free of COVID-19.
Hence, we strongly urge you to get vaccinated before it’s too late. We want you to educate yourself on the importance of vaccination and encourage the rest to get vaccinated as well.
Let us not fall back at this moment, but rather continue to rise with our vaccination headway. #kitajagakita
