FreeMakan.com Which Raised RM1.35 Million to Feed Malaysians Nationwide, Needs Your Support

FreeMakan.com is a Brickfields Asia College (BAC) Food Bank effort dedicated to help tackle food poverty in Malaysia by distributing dry rations and cooked food to those suffering from hunger. It was launched in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

BAC is a strong supporter of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and has been actively involved in transforming individuals and communities in Malaysia and around the world. They are committed to changing people’s lives via education.

BAC Education also provides students with an unrivalled educational experience through its network of world-class partner colleges and organisations.

The initiative’s goal was to earn RM1.5 million to feed 30,000 households, and while they are almost there, there is still much more work needed to be done.

Every day, more and more families fall into the B40 group, and many more spiral downward from there.

They have collaborated with a network of community-based organisations to handle the immediate needs of the pandemic’s poor and homeless victims.

So far, their food baskets have been sent to over 20,000 families across the country, according to BAC Education Group Chairman Raja Singham. This corresponds to more than 2 million meals for 85, 000 people across the country.

A backend team was in charge of ensuring that food baskets were delivered to deserving families on time.

At BAC, 90 employees and 30 apprentices were assigned to answer calls and validate inquiries from 5800 people who had contacted the college from all over the country looking for food assistance. Moo Tik Pin and Mithila Narendran coordinated with the BAC Team to manage the requests from all states. The Free Makan Team made certain that all requests were met and that no one was left behind.

He said;

“We have delivered these food baskets to those in the Klang Valley, Selangor, Kedah, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Johor and Sabah. Recently we also reached out to 202 families in Pulau Gaya, Sabah.

“Early this week we sent 200 baskets to aid the flood victims at Gurun and Yan in Kedah and responded to an FMT news article by delivering 200 food baskets to people at Panorama Lapangan Perdana in Ipoh”

Raja Singham said FreeMakan also reached out to Orang Asli communities in Johor and Selangor.

“These are the ones that have not received any aid yet. The requests for aid are also from refugees from all communities, migrant and undocumented workers and the stateless.”

According to Raja Singham, FreeMakan has received funding from a few foundations and corporate organisations. Creator Foundation, Heineken SPARK Foundation, Perlis Plantations Berhad, CSR Sugar, Nestle Malaysia, Affin Hwang Capital, Adenland Group, MyTukar, MMA Wilayah, Enya, Aroma Flour, F&N, Comvita, and Brickfields Asia College are among the organisations involved.

“We would like to thank them for their support but at the same time appeal to more organisations out there to help out.

“We will keep doing this for at least another 3 months as Covid-19 cases are still recording extremely high daily numbers. The requests for food are still coming in.”

Donors are invited to contact FreeMakan to learn more or to make a contribution. BAC Education Group covers all operational costs, and donor contributions are used entirely to purchase groceries for the food baskets. For more information, please visit  bac.education
