A great cover has that kind of power. Covers may sometimes be even better than the original, while others take on such a life of their own that most people have no idea that it was actually created by someone else.
We’ve gathered a selection of incredible tunes performed by Malaysian youth musicians.
Kanniyaashree – Kanniyaashree.k
Kanni’s majestic cover on the beautiful tune aptly titled Venmathi Venmathi from the film Minnale is beyond our imagination. And I bet you guys, she has done a beautiful job of turning the tune entirely hers into a graceful, string-filled rendition!
Vishnu Manichelvan – vishnu_manichelvan
You might not know the name, but you’ll fall for his magical voice. His rendition on Malargale Malargale from the film Love Birds is one like none other.
Kishen Chandran – iamkishenchandran
Kishen pulls a rabbit out of his hat with this clever rendition on Havoc Brother’s album aptly titled Kathali. The singer has slowed down the tempo, brought in the synths and the outcome was indeed good.
Sasitaran – sasitaran_baskaran
Sasi’s rendition on Tharame Tharame from the film Kadaram Kondan probably feeling little emotional. While the rendition definitely still sounds like the original, Sasi’s mesmerising voice has made it entirely hers with his own signature spin.
Kaviyarasi – _.k.a.v.i
Another mind-blowing rendition by Kavi of AR Rahman’s hit song Ennodu Nee Irundhal and her version is a hit on Instagram. Truly breathtaking!
Vikneshwaran Balakrishnan – _thevikneshwar_
Viknesh’s voice has been etched in our hearts due to his soulful voice. The magnificent cover of Nee Kavithaigala and Kannamma is definitely worth a listen.
Luckshmi – singer_luckshmi
Luckshmi’s notable cover on the song Malare Mounama is as close as it can get to any masterpiece. One of the voices which will turn on our day more blissful.
Prieya Vathani – pri3ya
Harris Jayaraj songs have been covered by everyone but one in particular stands out above the rest. Prieya’s cover from the renowned singer’s album was a transitional masterpiece. You can count on hearing a pin drop whenever Sri begins to sing.
Be honest, how many did you think were the real deal?
