Fed up with waiting for the older generation to sort out Malaysia’s current issues, a growing number of young leaders are taking matters into their own hands. In a political climate, countless of young people particularly the Millennials and Gen X are inert with despair, leading to a growing number of young adults whom are taking on the lead by responding to a call for action.

Kiran Raj Sathivel, the Program Director of Dewan Belia India Malaysia are among the many young adults who have answered the call by shattering stereotypes of the lazy, entitled, self-obsessed millennial. More young people between the ages of 18-40 are questioning the current crisis which they’re inheriting and demanding things work differently.

You can quote him on that!

Kiran Raj Sathivel (Program Director of Dewan Belia India Malaysia)

In this 21st century, young people are profoundly changing the status quo and finding alternative approaches to today’s most crucial challenges.

This time around, Dewan Belia India Malaysia (DBIM) will bring together 70 Indian youth representatives from various backgrounds and political ideologies to discuss, debate and approve proposals related to national policy, law and Indian society for three months (November 2021 – January 2022).

In the wake over the issue of socio-economic development of the Indian community, especially low-income families (B40) did not improve due to policy and development plans that did not fall in line with the needs of the Indian community in terms of implementation and economic empowerment. Interestingly, the program will be attended by representatives of the Malaysian Indian youth aged 16 to 30 years.

Spearheaded by our very own youth leader Kiran, this prestigious programme will be held in a hybrid mode for the first time in Malaysia, especially for Indian youths to channel opinions and suggestions on national policies and politics. Besides that, focusing on tabling the motions for five specific ministries including the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Education will be another prospect of organising the programme as well.

“Young people should be exposed to the process of democracy and administration of the country for the sake of a comprehensive community development. It’s now or never.” – Kiran Raj Sathivel

List of speakers and mentors for Dewan Belia India Malaysia

To date the programme has also received support from several organisations such as Architects of Diversity (AOD), Project 57, Gerakan Belia Se-Punjabi Malaysia (GBSM) and others. A total number of 8 leaders and activists of the Indian community including YB P. Prabakaran, Mr. Tharma Pillai, YB Kasthuriraani Patto, Mr. Sivarraajh, Mr. Sharan Raj, and Dr.Thanussha Francis Xavier collaborated together in the programme to assist the 70 delegates during their mentoring sessions and preside the conferences during Dewan Belia India Malaysia.

Let’s join forces by continuing supporting our young leaders, because we know that the world in 30 years, 40 years, is going to be ours.
