Women’s cricket has been progressively prevalent, as the news extensively covers all major women’s events and legendary personalities motivating the next generation of female cricketers. And now our Malaysian women cricketers will be representing the country at the international level as well.

Our very own Malaysian women cricketers, Winifred Ann and Dhanusri, made us proud by representing our homeland at the Commonwealth Games Women’s Cricket Competition Qualifiers which kicked off yesterday (18th January) in Kuala Lumpur.

Known as the longstanding captain Winifred Anne Duraisingam has broken the world record for the best bowling figures (6/3 in 4 overs) in a T20I against China in 2019. Adding to her mind-blowing success as the lone warrior with the bat, her top-score was against Bangladesh with 12 runs off 31 balls in her last match. Apart from her, none of the other batters managed to score in double digits. Winifred was also among the 8 women to participate in the Men’s MCA T20 Super Series 2020.

Dhanusri, on the other hand, has only played one Twenty20 International for Malaysia which was against Bangladesh, in 2018. However, she missed the opportunity to bat or bowl in that match. Since that match, she has not been featured in any T20I for Malaysia. She is a right-handed batter and a right arm seamer.

It clearly shows that Malaysian Cricket has been creating pathways for women players and working towards offering merit based opportunities for both men and women cricketers.
