Malaysia is a vast country full of incredible people whose work is highly perceived and appreciated. With some scientists striving beyond that to bring discoveries, conduct experiments, and evolve technologies, their contribution is just another league to conquer science.
Having said that, a soil scientist, Dr Jeyanny Vijayanathan from the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) was recently honoured with the Outstanding Woman Researcher Award. Conferred by the Venus International Foundation for the Soil Fertility category under the discipline of Agricultural Sciences, her research expertise are soil chemistry, fertility, survey and plant.
To date she has co-authored up to 6 books, 14 academic journals, and more than 35 proceeding papers. Being an active committee member of the Malaysian Society of Soil Science, her dedication towards the field of science is mind-blowing.
With having more than 17 years experience in soil sciences and plant nutrition field, Jenny has also been serving as the current Vice President for the Malaysian Society of Soil Science as well as a registered chemist with the Malaysia Institute of Chemistry.
According to FRIM, VIWA is committed to emphasising the contributions of women in science, notably in the fields of agriculture, engineering, health and medical sciences, humanities and social sciences, management sciences, and veterinary and animal sciences. This year, 33 award winners were selected out of 974 nominees globally via the Expert Committee Report and Apex Committee recommendations.
