Fusion cuisine is nothing new; it has existed for a long time. We can use fast food as an example, for instance, KFC has their “Chizza”, which combines pizza and chicken fillet, and McDonalds has their “Samurai Burger”, which was inspired by Japanese cuisine, and the list goes on.

When it comes to fusion Asian cuisine, practically everything has outside influences. There’s no need to think too hard about it, even roti canai has been fused to become roti cheese, roti sausage, roti chocolate, etc.

Among all of these, a Malaysian recently astounded people with the “nasi lemak pani puri” recipe, and the Tik Tok video quickly became popular.

A common Indian snack called “golgappa” or pani puri, consists of little puri balls that are filled with mashed potatoes that have been spiced and water that have been seasoned to taste.

According to NST, the Tik Tok user Ikmalzulkifli, who has 113.4k followers, explained how to make the Malay-Indian fusion delight in the 47 second clip.

Based on the video, the creator began by frying the “puri” (a crisp, deep-fried flatbread). Then, round hollow “puri” filled with a tablespoon of coconut rice, a thinly shredded pan-fried egg, crushed fried anchovies, and thinly sliced cucumbers, then drizzled with “sambal”.

Nobody could have predicted a pani puri with nasi lemak ingredients, therefore kudos to the creator for coming up with such a concept.

Many people responded positively to the video, saying it was a creative idea.

While others criticised him for using such a recipe.

The majority of people found it difficult to accept the fusion, yet they nevertheless valued the effort.

Efforts like this should be acknowledged and appreciated regardless of the circumstances. It is encouraged for people to express kindness to others rather than hatred.

The creator filled his Tik Tok account with a lot of delectable and commendable cooking videos. It goes without saying that people like this deserve to be supported, and Varnam MY wishes him the best as he continues to create amazing new things.
