The Trailer For Padmaavat, Starring Deepika Padukone Is Out And It Looks Glorious

The trailer for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat is out and it looks GLORIOUS! For months now, Padmaavat (previously titled Padmavati) has been ridden with all sorts of controversy — what’s new? — with one particular Rajput caste organization claiming the film paints the Rajput queen in a bad light. There were also certain groups of people threatening to kill and mutilate the lead actress, Deepika Padukone. This prompted the Indian government to contemplate the possibility of banning the film altogether.

Members of the Indian film industry did not sit back and allow the film to take a beating, though. Filmmaker Sudhir Mishra called the incidents “an assault on creative freedom.” Padmaavat also received massive support from various A-listers in the industry including esteemed Indian director, Karan Johar, and actors such as Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra.

Well, it looks like things are finally starting to settle down and Padmaavat might be looking at a January 25th release date.

What’s particularly exciting about this film is that it’s written and directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who previously worked on Devdas, a 2002 film starring Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, and Aishwarya Rai that went on to gain international recognition, which includes a BAFTA award for Best Film not in the English Language.
