Without a doubt, Malaysians have brought glory and honour to the country by participating in competitions in the sports and education arenas.

‘The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a person’s determination.’

As the saying goes, meet 17-year-old young lad, Sriven who is set to make his debut as a national walker at the Kuala Lumpur Malaysia Games which will commence on the 15th till 18th September 2022.

Despite all the odds and challenges, he managed to climb up the prestigious competition as a leading contender in the 10,000m and 20,000m. Perhaps, his results at the Malaysian Open in March where he won the 10,000m and 20,000m) have made him one of the favourites.

The Form Five student of SMK Haji Abdul Kadir has also finished on top of the podium in the 10,000m in the KL All Comers that took place at Bukit Jalil and he recorded a personal best of 49:27 in the Perak Open recently.

Impressive, isn’t it?

He has definitely followed the path of his parents who are also active in sports. Tan Chee Leong and D. Kavitha, the parents are definitely a gem to look up to for their encouragement and support towards Sriven in fulfilling his dream.

Delving into Tan’s sports record, NST previously reported that he was a champion walker, winning the boys’ 5,000m in three Asean School Championships in Jakarta (1993), Bangkok (1994) and Jakarta (1995). From storming into high-anticipated competition, he has also won bronze in the 10,000m walk in three Malaysia Games: 1994 in Perak, 1996 in Pahang and 1998 in Selangor, and a silver in the 2,0000m in 1998.

A special mention to Tan’s wife, Mrs Kavitha who has also represented Penang in the 1993 International Junior Championship race walk.

In year of 2019, Sriven Tan chalked up yet another victory by winning a gold medal in the 1500m Race Walking Boy’s U14 event at the Little Athletics Championship with a time of 6m 49.3s.

Team Malaysia has proudly taken the great piece of news to Twitter:
