With all the hitches going on here and there from Day 1, MC Entertainment has finally pulled off one of the greatest shows ever.

Rockstar Anirudh Ravichander drew a crowd of 9k to this glow-in-the-dark-themed concert which was held at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur on 17th September 2022.

Every one of the concert-goers looked stunning donning various styles of outfits from hip-chic styles to even semi-traditional looks.

Vibe Fest

To hype up and to keep entertaining the crowd before the main star of the night begins his gig, MC Entertainment organized a Carnival fest beside the hall that features yummy food stalls, entertaining game stations, a face painting booth, a Live DJ, lucky draw session and merchandise booth. (It was a good starter)

As soon as the doors opened around 6.30pm, each audience from every zone was greeted with a LED programmable Xyloband to boost up the glow-in-the-dark theme.

The Frenetic Opening Act

The opening act was initiated by the brilliant DJ Jay playing a riveting set of tracks from Chikku Bukku to Vaseegara fusion and even the viral Kala Chashma song. And once again, DJ Jay made the whole crowd jump and groove by playing the fav of many; the ‘Yaakai Thirri’ song.

After 30 minutes of pumping up the crowd, the talented DJ Ruckes joined him on the deck. DJ Ruckes enthralled the crowd with the first song on the deck, Aathangara Marame and turned the audience hyped up. One of the tracks that hit the zenith was Taxi Taxi. (It was simply too lit to see the entire crowd singing along). This incredible duo delivers some greatest hit tracks and ended the opening act with the classy Humma song.

Big ups to both of the excellent DJs for invigorating the crowd for almost 80-minutes.

BALAN KASH, the emcee of the night entered the stage donning a classy navy blue suit. Upon his arrival, he took the opportunity to thank all the sponsors. Next, Havoc Brothers stepped up on the stage as the official ambassador of the AHA OTT app Malaysia, sharing more about the AHA App and AHA free subscription for all the concert-goers as a perk of attending the concert.

Following that, our rap sobriquet Balan walked up to the centre of the stage holding the sovereignty of our country, the ‘Jalur Gemilang’.

‘I don’t care who you are, where you’re from, or what colour you are. This moment is for everybody tonight’ seconds later Balan said that our national anthem played in the hall, brimming all over the stage chaperoning with the voice of all attendees. (Indeed one of the goosebump moments in the concert)

This artist, who never fails to acknowledge and honour the origins of Malaysian Tamil music whenever he gets the chance, pays homage to some of our legendary musicians by playing their signature songs, including songs of rapper extraordinaire Yogi B and Lockup. He then ended up the emceeing session by performing his jamboree track ‘Start That Thiruvizha’.

Thank you Balan, for the great start!

DJ Gowtham kick-started his gig by warming up the audience with a metre check. The more they scream, the higher the metre will go. Well, this session was fun since everyone screamed out with gusto. (It was the loudest sound I’ve ever heard in my entire life!)

The most iconic thing that he did during the concert was the flashlight wave. For a few seconds, the dark hall turned into a disco podium with tonnes of flashlights from the crowd waving up and down. Following that toasty session, Gowtham pumped up the beat with Anirudh’s top-notch hit tracks, from Ilayathalapathy’s Master beat to Thalaivar’s Petta track.

During the break, he was also onstage, keeping the crowd entertained with an energy-banger playlist.

Thanks to DJ Gowtham for brimming the stage with full-on-full oomph the entire time.

The Most Awaited; The Eagle’s Arrival

Anirudh’s appearance is just on another level. With the mind-boggling sounds and a fiery- raging lighting backdrop, with a bunch of amazing backup dancers, Anirudh entered the stage magnificently singing the intro of the ‘Once Upon A Time’ track from Vikram.

With the ditto blazing energy, he performed the title track of Vikram, Vaathi Coming and Pathala Pathala song which even compelled the audience in the seating area to get up and start dancing.

The 31-year-old singer/composer continues to slay the stage with Kalyaana Vayasu, So Baby and Thangamey songs.

Not to forget, one of the banger songs that he performed during the first half which stirs the excitement of the entire crowd is the Aathi track from Kaththi. (Personally, this was my on-loop song in my playlist)

Furthermore, as the hit riled up, Anirudh awaken the inner vehement spirit of the audience, slaying the stage by performing Velai Illa Pattadhaari song. He and his band of musicians turned into beast mode while performing this song.

One banger song after another, Anirudh lit up the stage by delivering thunderous performances entirely without even the slightest lag.

Anirudh’s passion to perform in Malaysia after a six-year gap is evident. For this 3-hour-long concert, he poured his entire heart and soul into the show.

Heart Robbing Performance

Once Upon A Time’is the combo that surely will make any stranger fall for his musical charm, that’s the power this duo hold.

After the 2nd break, the rockstar surprises his fans by appearing in the middle of the arena with a keyboard infront of him. The first song that he played on his keyboard erupted deafening screams around the stadium. What song can make that huge wave of blaring sound other than Po nee po track?

For 15-min, Anirudh robbed everyone’s heart while playing the keyboard as he sang some of his magical creation pieces of songs like Enakenna Yaarum Illaye, On Penne, Megham Karukatha, Yennai Maatrum Kadhale and the crowd’s fav; Kanave Kanave song.

There are a few moments during the concert where the speakers failed to play its role as the audience took over zealously singing along with Anirudh.

For this 3-hour-long concert, Anirudh belted out a total of 43 songs for his fans including Why This Kolaveri Di, Selfie Pulla, Dippam Dappam, Maari Thara Local, Aaluma Doluma, Udhungada Sangu and more.

Riveting Performances from other Artists

Apart from Anirudh and his terrific live band, the audience witnesses an amazing performance from the honey-like voice of Jonita Gandhi, the melodious singer Ravi G, the recent heart throbber Adithya Rk, the rocking Super Singer famed singer Yogi Sekar and another surprise guest, who is Anirudh’s father Ravi Raghavendra who made a special appearance depicting Thalaivar Rajinikanth during the last song of the concert.

Like always, Jonita wowed the crowd with her euphonious voice as she performed Private Party, Chellama Song, and other songs with Anirudh. On the other hand, Ravi G performed the famous ‘Naan Pizhai’ while playing the keyboard. The Super Singer rockstar, Yogi Sekar powerfully performed ‘Vaathi Raid’ and amazed the entire crowd when he rapped the wickedly fast pace verse. The rising star Adithya Rk sang the ‘Bae’ that made all the girls in the concert awestruck with his alluring voice.

Anirudh’s exceptional band of musicians put on another stellar performance that day. Every song was performed to perfection by the band members, who all rocked it. Massive thanks to this superb group of musicians for delivering so much punch into the over three-hour concert.

The Unexpected Fusion

During the break, Malaysia’s famous Dhol band Dhol Ambassadors energetically performed a bewitching gig, they even played the dhol version of ‘Shape of You’ by Ed Sheeran which makes the crowd sing and dance along. Next up was the act from Tirusuli Aiyanar Urumi Melam where the urumi sound wrecked the stage and erupted the audience to chant ‘Vel Vel’. For a moment, Anirudh’s concert turned into a Thaipusam fest. The fact that both bands work together to create an intriguing fusion is even more remarkable. (It was a pleasure to see this live)

The sounds and the lighting were just spectacular during the concert. The excellent sound and music that brimmed through the huge speaker made the night upbeat with 100% party mode.

Moreover, the enthralling part of the concert, noting the Glow-in-the-Dark theme concert inspired by Coldplay, MC Entertainment beautifully created a stunning light show throughout the concert through the LED programmable Xyloband which was given to each attendee. The luminous light just made the concert hike a level up providing a greater concert atmosphere.

Despite a slight delay, the concertgoers lived the moment thoroughly to the utmost from the beginning to the end of the show.

Nevertheless, Anirudh’s Once Upon A Time Tour 2022 was dope and spectacular, and big kudos to the entire MC Entertainment team for making it an experience of a lifetime!
