Have you ever had the hunch to watch our local films on streaming platforms but are unsure of what to watch?

Let us help you. How many of you’ll remember Vedigundu Pasangge? Does the title of the film sound familiar to you?

Yes, the local Tamil film which has created history by emerging as the first and highest-grossing Tamil local movie in Malaysia after crossing RM1.1 million at the box office has now made its way to Netflix.

Indeed a great piece of news!

Helmed by an ace filmmaker, Dr Vimala Perumal, the film has garnered many accolades for the cast and screenplay. From winning numerous awards locally and internationally, the film clinched the ‘Best Film’ and ‘Best Female Actor’ awards at the 10th Norway Tamil Film Festival, and Special Jury Award at the prestigious Festival Filem Malaysia. Within a short period, Dr Vimala won the Best Screenplay Award at the Barcelona Planet Film Festival.

Produced by Veedu Production in association, the local flick centres around snatch thefts and other social problems affecting the Indian community in Malaysia.

Starring Denes Kumar, Sangeeta Krishnasamy, the late Thangamani Velayudan, David Anthony, Alvin Martin, Magen Vikadakavi, Kuben Mahadevan, Seelan Manoharan, and Saran Kumar, the action comedy serves as the third part of the Pasange trilogy following ‘Vilayaatu Pasangge’ (2011) and ‘Vetti Pasangge’ (2014).

Vedigundu Pasangge had also broken into the international market when it was released in the United Kingdom, India, Sri Lanka & Singapore and now has international recognition to celebrate local films with a global reach.

With so much new content added to the giant streaming platform, Malaysia is definitely proud of our local offerings.
