This whole week is frenetic as everyone is busy running here and there to prep for Deepavali which will be celebrated next week (24th October). During this festive month, it’s difficult for us to keep up with the budget, particularly for groceries.

To ease the burden of everyone, the government implements the Deepavali 2022 Festival Season Maximum Price Scheme which will be enforced from 20th to 26th October 2022. The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) has listed eight items under the Deepavali 2022 Maximum Price Scheme.

  • Imported boned mutton
  • Tomatoes
  • Red chilli
  • Coconut (*Maximum price at a wholesale level only)
  • Grated coconut (*Maximum price at retail level only)
  • Small red onion (Indian)
  • Imported large shallots
  • Dal beans (Australia)

The secretary-general Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof said “This control period is in accordance with the current situation, which is to create a win-win situation for consumers and traders. This price scheme will be enforced through the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 which allows price determination to be made at the producer, wholesaler and retailer levels,”

Meanwhile, Azman said chicken and chicken eggs remained as price-controlled items since 12th October.

The implementation period is for 7 days and effective 4 days before the festival, 1 day during the festival and 2 days after the festival.
