During my high school days, I received so much criticism for being myself. There were times I had insecurities and almost buried myself from society. It all began to change when I came across a quote that said-
Don’t allow yourself to be defined by what others say, instead just be who you are.
Life changed me then, said one of the top 100 selected for the MonStar Awards 2022, Annsley Dashawna Stephen. From being timid to bringing back her jovial side, Annsley started to join multiple events and leadership programs during her undergraduate degree. She is also currently active and involved in The Women and Family Development Committee (JPWK) in Penang, a member of NGO Sanitary Bank Malaysia, Head of the Health Bureau MUDA in Penang, Secretariat Dewan Belia India Malaysia (DBIM) and Public Relations Board Directors of NGO Empati.
During an interview with Varnam MY, Annsley shared her teen days coping with critics and her inspirations that made her step into Politics. “I love how Penang motivates women with programmes that are set to empower and make a difference regardless of gender and age. That inspired me and I want to be a part of making a change for all the women facing discrimination in this nation”. Annsley also shared her gratitude for being among the Top 100 selected for the MonStar Awards 2022.
MonStar Award is recognized as Malaysia’s largest young talent award. It is known to be a platform for youths to discover and recognise influential, innovative, and inspiring talents. This show helps young talents who have capabilities beyond academic studies and are active in extracurricular to have a chance to be recognised by the nation.
The 23-year-old who is currently doing her Master in Medical Science at Universiti Malaya (UM), said she came across this amazing talent show from one of the past participants who took part.
“I was inspired by the whole concept of this talent show and it encouraged me to participate”, she added.
MonStar Award 2022 which sets its nomination and application date from 1 August to 30 September recognises the Top 100 young talents through their transformational story. Individuals who participated were to submit a 500-word essay with a 60-90 second Instagram reel.
“By sharing my story through this platform, I received many heartwarming messages from people that could actually relate and had gone through similar experiences. That is when it motivated me even more as if others can make it through, I surely can too”, said Annsley.
The Finale will take place on 26 November announcing the Top 10 winners out of the Top 100 young talents. Congratulations to Annsley Dashawna Stephen and all Top 100 stars.
