Mazhaimegan, the youth behind this great cover, has been garnering attention for his flawless music renditions. Not just this cover, but he has a number of great covers on his media platforms. His ability to create mashups of different songs in different languages is particularly impressive and adds to the uniqueness of his covers.
In an interview with Varnam Malaysia, the 23-year-old disclosed his passion for music to us.
Mazhaimegan’s interest in making music covers began when he wanted to experiment with singing while playing the guitar, which he felt gave off a warm, cozy, and laid-back feeling. He started putting out music covers to show his style of singing.
His musical influences are Yuvan Shankar Raja, AR Rahman, and Sid Sriram. “Yuvan Shankar Raja has had the most heartfelt songs composed”, said Mazhaimegan. He feels that Yuvan’s heartbreak songs, especially the ones that he sings, resonate with him.
AR Rahman has always composed intricate and beautiful melodies, and practicing his songs is always a learning experience. Sid Sriram has been the biggest motivation for Mazhaimegan to keep pursuing music because of his passion and hard work. For instance, Sid Sriram practices singing for about seven hours a day.
Mazhaimegan’s process for choosing which songs to cover is based on how appropriate the song is to his voice culture and how he can add his own style to it. He also tries to pick songs that are underrated and those requested by his followers.
When creating a cover, especially those that are mashups of Tamil and English songs, Mazhaimegan’s process involves finding song segments that are of the same chords and figuring out the best transition point.

“The simplest and most common formula for a transition would be to use the first song’s verse, pre-chorus, and transition to a powerful second song’s chorus. This way, anyone listening can settle into the first song and appreciate the transition to the next. It would be great if the songs are of the same concept but a different emotion”, shared Mazhaimegan.
