Every month, millions of women worldwide use sanitary pads to absorb their menstrual flow. Pads are a practical and pleasant method of period management for many women. But pads also provide significant health advantages. For instance, by keeping the vaginal region dry and clean, pads can help lower the risk of irritation and infection. Additionally, pads help stop chafing by absorbing extra moisture. Last but not least, padding may shield garments against stains and smells. Because of all these factors, sanitary pads are important to women’s lives all around the world.
Even though sanitary pads are important for women’s lives, some college students experience discomfort when they don’t have access to pads when they need them. For this reason, students from Universiti Utara Malaysia launched the SEFB Sanitary Pad Bank programme.
The launch of the SEFB Sanitary Pad Bank project was initiated by the Student Representative Council of the Faculty of Economics, Finance, and Banking, led by Ms. Khausalya A/P Chandran.
The project intends to help SEFB students overcome hygiene and financial challenges during their menstrual cycle. The programme’s goals are to increase student wellbeing, foster gender equality among SEFB academics, and create an environment that is favourable to learning.
With the Pad Bank in place, students may get free sanitary pads whenever they need them based on their needs. Other colleges and institutions will be motivated by this effort to start similar activities that help the whole community.
Through this project, UUM students want to remove the barriers that menstruation may present in the way of achievement and equality.
