Over the years, Malaysian Tamil cinema has evolved in terms of storytelling, production values, and technical aspects. Many filmmakers in Malaysia have embraced new technologies and techniques to enhance the visual quality of their films. Additionally, the Malaysian Tamil film industry has also witnessed the emergence of talented actors, directors, and technicians. Nowadays, the perspective of audience towards Malaysian Tamil movies have evolved much. The quality of our local films have enhanced. There are many young talents with great skills arising in the industry. The outcome of them are receiving good feedbacks and being applauded.
In that case, there few local movies new released and running successfully in theatres nationwide. Let’s take a moment to look at it. There are two Malaysian Tamil films screening in theaters. Firstly, “Rajathanthiram: The Piano” which was released on 29th June 2023. It is one of the most anticipated local Tamil movie. The movie’s running time is 2 hours 10 minutes and has subtitle in English. It is said that the genre of the movie is mystery and drama. This movie is directed by Aaron Rao and Dinakaran who are new comers to the directorial field and proudly presented by Poketplay Sdn. Bhd. The cast of the film includes Malaysia’s leading stars such as Thevaguru, Moon Nila, K.S. Maniam, Shabby, Aadith Devendran, S. Haridhass and many more. The storyline of the movie covers a person named Arumugam who once received a wooden box as a present from an unidentified Englishman for his charity. Arumugam discovers a valuable pink diamond while further scrutinising the box in his home. He and his piano-maker friend developed and built a custom-made piano with a secret compartment that can only be accessed by playing a particular tune, with no intention of selling the diamond. He divides the music into four parts and teaches each tune to his four children separately. Later, Arumugam develops Alzheimer’s disease and forgets about the piano’s secret, but mystery figures discover the secret and goes after the family for the diamond. It is such an interesting storyline which grab the attention of the audience till the very last minute of the movie. Currently, the movie is screening in 7 cinemas in Malaysia.

Followed by that, another popular local movie running successfully is “Club House” which was released recently 6th July 2023. Its still fresh in theaters nationwide. The movie is taken in an action-packed cum thriller genre. Notably, this movie has mark its name in Malaysia Book of Records for the “First Single Shot Film”. This movie is first ever Malaysian movie shot entirely without any cuts for 118 minutes continuously. It was a great effort by the production team – “Triple S Films”. Notably, Deisho Sivabaalan, Shamvanan and Leanesh Sivabaalan are the main leads in this film. “Club House” is directed by Amin which showcases a story of three criminals approach and rob a money changer with the intention of sending the money to Hong Kong and then leaving the country. Meanwhile, they have hidden in a safehouse, but a fight between the robbers ended in one of them shooting another, and a group of people is on their way to the house for a birthday celebration. It is running in 22 cinemas across Malaysia.
