Udhayanidhi Stalin, the producer of the much-awaited Shankar-directed Indian 2, has stated that the production is aiming to release the film in April 2024. The film is a sequel to the original 1996 hit film Indian, which starred Kamal Hassan in the dual roles of father and son. In this film, Kamal Hassan will reprise his role as INA veteran Senapathy. Along with Kamal, the stellar cast of the film includes Kajal Agarwal, Siddharth, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Bobby Simha, Vivel, Guru Somasundaram, and Nedumudi Veni.

The original film had been praised for sparking nationalistic pride among Indian youth. The film had garnered Kamal Hassan the National Film Awards, Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, and Filmfare Awards South, all for Best Actor, for his dedicated dual performances as Senapathy and Chandru.

Director Shankar has also shared that Indian 2 will also feature some never-before-seen cinematic techniques. He had even shared that he was at the Lola VFX company in Los Angeles working on some parts of the film. Shankar has his own unique style of filmmaking that utilises a lot of VFX for his films like Enthiran and 2.0. He is also a critically acclaimed director who has made some of the most significant Tamil films, like Gentleman, Anniyan, Jeans, and Mudhalvan, films that still hold a large impact on Tamil audiences.

The score for the film will be produced by none other than well-known music director Anirudh Ravichander. The young music composer had previously created music for Kamal Hassan and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Vikram, which was a massive hit amongst Tamil audiences worldwide.

The film, as well as Anirudh’s music, had created a resurgence in Kamal Hassan’s career. In this year alone, Anirudh has composed music for Vijay’s Leo and Rajnikanth’s Jailer. Along with that, the award-winning music director has also made his Bollywood debut this year by composing music for Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan.
