‘The Unheard Plea’, A 75 Minute Solo Performance To Be Held On 10th May

‘The Unheard Plea’, a 75 minute solo dance drama performance will be performed by Neha Mondal Chakravarty at Temple of Fine Arts on 10th of May.

This dance performance is about Draupadi, the legendary heroine of Mahabharata. She was a woman way ahead of her time. Draupadi was raised to fulfil her father’s desire for revenge. She was beautiful was an epitome of femininity, compassion and virtue.  

Draupadi remains an icon of early feminism today. She boldly embraced her sexuality and is fearless. Her intelligence and knowledge of state affairs was considered no less than that of any Man at that time . Stories in the Mahabharata portrayed her to be very skillful rescued her husbands from humiliation and misery.

Neha, is a bharatanatyam dancer and choreographer, based out of New Delhi, currently residing in Singapore. She is a post graduate from the renowned Kalakshetra Foundation in Chennai . Neha is an intermediate level trained contemporary dancer, however she has had the opportunity to work with  The Ministry Of Information and Broadcasting, for Soochna Bhavan as an A grade Artist.

Neha has been awarded with YUVA KALA RATNA by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. She has also received scholarships By The Ministry Of Culture and National Centre Of Cultural Resources and Training, in Bharatanatyam to further her dance training. While she lived in Malaysia, she managed to expand her horizons of classical dance. Neha has worked with Swara Community Arts Center in Kuala Lumpur, as the head of dance department, collaborating with a number of artists. She also has toured extensively with her productions, and recently premiered her latest work “The Unheard Plea” at The Drive East Festival In New York.

The 75 minute solo dance will be presented with English dialogues and Sanskrit lyrics to accompany the modern adaptation of the Indian mythology. The Unheard Plea was the brainchild of Neha and she worked very closely with Priya Krishnadas. Priya is an accomplished Mohiniattam Danseuse who is well read with scriptures and Indian Mythology, and writes blogs, also assists dancers with research work .
