When Shalini Balasundaram was asked about the character of Arthi in the film, she had revealed that,
Initially, the role of Arthi was intended for another actress. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the casting did not materialize as planned. I found myself in a situation where I had no alternative but to step into the character of Arthi. It was a role I had never even contemplated in my wildest dreams, and I was completely unprepared for the responsibilities that came with being an actress.
During the filming of “Geethaiyin Raadhai,” my lack of acting experience became evident, and I made certain mistakes and exhibited flaws in my performance. These imperfections proved to be valuable lessons, providing me with a profound realization and understanding of how to approach my future roles as an actress. The character of Arthi served as a pivotal learning experience, helping me identify my weaknesses and motivating me to become a better actress.
In retrospect, I now recognize that if I were given the opportunity to portray Arthi again, I would approach the character in a different manner. The lessons I have learned and the growth I have experienced as an actress since that time would undoubtedly have influenced my portrayal, resulting in a more refined and nuanced performance.
The chemistry between the characters of Ajay and Arthi on screen was palpable, creating a powerful connection that drew viewers into the story. Their impeccable acting not only enhanced the narrative but also left a lasting impression, making their characters memorable and relatable.

A Love Story In Different Perspective
The storyline of the movie shows the beauty of love in the perspective of a woman. As Shalini Balasundaram a female who embarked her journey as a director, she wished to deliver love in a different perspective where it shows the feelings and expectation of a girl in a relationship.

For centuries, we have predominantly seen love stories told from a male point of view, and now, we aim to create ‘Geethaiyin Raadhai’ from a girl’s perspective. This fresh perspective will offer a unique and insightful take on love and relationships through the eyes of a female protagonist, shedding new light on this timeless theme.”, said Shalini who is the director of “Geethaiyin Raadhai”.
The movie “Geethaiyin Raadhai,” received widespread acclaim and a warm welcome from the audience upon its release. The story’s universal appeal and emotional depth played a pivotal role in this extraordinary reception. It was a narrative that went beyond cultural and geographical boundaries, touching the hearts of viewers worldwide. Shalini Balasundaram’s remarkable success with her debut directorial venture, “Geethaiyin Raadhai,” stands as a shining example of talent and dedication in the world of cinema.
Its impressive collection of RM529,162 speaks volumes about its commercial success, especially for a debut director in a niche market. What’s even more impressive is that, despite the passage of time, the film continues to hold a prominent position in the list of the Top 10 Malaysian Tamil films released to date.
When asked about how did “Geethaiyin Raadhai” contributed to Shalini’s directorial debut she said,
During the production, post production I learned so many things that was helpful for me and after the release of the film from audiences’ response I did learn and imply their responses in my upcoming films.
During the production and post-production phases of “Geethaiyin Raadhai,” Shalini would have encountered numerous challenges and opportunities to expand her skills. These stages are where the director fine-tunes the storytelling, visual aesthetics, and overall cinematic experience.
Learning to manage the creative aspects of filmmaking, coordinating with the cast and crew, and making critical decisions are all part of this educational process. Shalini’s commitment to learning and improving her craft during this phase laid a solid foundation for her future endeavors.

Shalini’s receptiveness to audience feedback allowed her to implement necessary changes and enhancements in her subsequent projects. This approach ensured that each new film she worked on was a step forward in terms of quality and audience engagement.
All the debut directors, will definitely face challenges in their first movie. In that case Shalini said,
Certainly, challenges were a prominent aspect of my journey, particularly in relation to assembling and leading my team. Earning their trust and confidence posed an initial hurdle. Being a female director in a field traditionally dominated by males made this task even more challenging. Convincing each member to believe in the potential of the film and work harmoniously as a team was no small feat.
Furthermore, during the time of the film’s production, the Tamil film industry faced its own set of challenges, including limited success and recognition. In this landscape, I found myself in the position of having to carve out my own path for the film’s success. This meant charting a unique course, navigating the industry’s obstacles, and proving that our project had the potential to shine in a competitive and evolving cinematic environment.
Overcoming these obstacles required determination, resilience, and a strong belief in the project’s worth. The journey may not have been easy, but it was through these challenges that I was able to demonstrate my dedication to the craft and ultimately create a path that led to the success of “Geethaiyin Raadhai.”
Musical Masterpiece
The Malaysian Tamil film “Geethaiyin Raadhai” owes a significant portion of its charm and emotional depth to its music and the brilliant music director behind it. The film’s soundtrack, composed by Sabesh-Murali, stands as a pillar of strength, elevating the storytelling and making it a memorable cinematic experience. At the heart of this musical masterpiece is the debut music director, Ztish, whose work in the film serves as a pillar of strength and elevates the entire film.
Ztish made his debut as a music composer with “Geethaiyin Raadhai,” and what a remarkable debut it was. His fresh and innovative approach to music composition breathed life into the film, instantly setting him apart as a promising talent in the industry. Ztish’s debut showcased his innate musical sensibilities, demonstrating a deep understanding of how music can enhance a film’s narrative and emotional depth.
Ztish’s compositions for the film are filled with memorable melodies that linger in the hearts and minds of the audience. The lyrics of the songs are poignant, reflecting the themes of love, longing, and separation central to the film’s narrative.
One of the standout tracks from the film is “Ennai Kollathey,” a song that has become an enduring favorite among fans. Ztish’s composition for this track is nothing short of enchanting. The melody, coupled with heartfelt lyrics, captures the essence of the film’s romantic theme and delivers the pain felt by the protagonists during their break up and the emotions of missing each other. This song would be still remain as one of the favourite heartbreak song of many.
This song was sung by Kumaresh Kamalakannan and Keshvini Saravanan who else made her debut through this mesmerizing composition. Their voice delivers the emotions to our hearts. Most of us initially perceived “Ennai Kollathey” as a song originating from the Kollywood and were taken aback when they discovered that it was crafted by our homegrown artists. The surprise stemmed from the realization that the song, despite its professional and emotional, soulful and high-quality composition, was created by artists from their very own community.
Ztish also stated that “Geethaiyin Raadhai” songs especially “Ennai Kollathey” had earned a separate fan base for him and for the album. Throughout the project, I encountered numerous challenges and obstacles, but I achieved significant success in the Malaysian film industry. There were huge fanbase for “Geethaiyin Raadhai” album. “Ennai Kollathey” was the final song composed for the album. While the director and lyricists approved all the other tracks, the tune for this particular song was not so satisfying. Despite multiple attempts, I decided to revisit a tune I had originally created back in 2010-2011, a tune that had faced rejection on numerous occasions and had even ended up in the trash on my computer. Remarkably, the tune you now hear in the composition of “Ennai Kollathey” is the one that was rescued from the depths of my computer’s trash bin which has a significant place in Malaysian Tamil songs with 97 million views on YouTube.
Initially, Ztish had intended to lend his own voice to this song. However, he made a conscious decision to offer these songs to other talented singers, aspiring to provide them with opportunities for recognition and growth. Ztish’s primary objective was to introduce and showcase local artists within his compositions, thereby contributing to the industry’s emerging talents and enriching it with fresh voices.
Ztish thanked the audience support for this masterpiece and believes that this is the blessings from the almighty as well. He also added,
I wish that the unsung heroes of the film industry, including music composers and the entire behind-the-scenes team, receive the recognition they genuinely deserve. It is imperative to acknowledge and appreciate their relentless efforts and dedication. Every artist and professional working diligently behind the scenes in the film industry aspires to hear the applause and heartfelt appreciation from the audience.
With all these, “Geethaiyin Raadhai” tends to stand as the memorable film of all time in the Malaysian Tamil cinema industry. This film distinguishes itself among Malaysian films with its unique blend of compelling storytelling, emotional depth, and a remarkable musical score. It resonates with audiences by addressing universal themes while celebrating local talent, cementing its place as a standout in Malaysian cinema.
