SJK (T) Ladang Sungai Muar is a 97-year-old school that resides in Segamat, Johor. It was granted land to reallocate, nearly 5 years ago, but because of a lack of funds to take on the task, the school has remained in this location, which poses a lot of problems for the accessibility of students. The relocation scheme of the school requires about RM 1,10,00,000.00 to complete. Yuveneshwaran Ramaraj, Segamat Member of Parliament, detailed all the ways in which students are affected by the current location of the school.
MP Yuveneshwaran states that the school is currently located 7 km away from the main road, and because of the lack of bus services travelling on this route, many students do not attend this educational institute. The location of the school is also unsafe for children as it is built on land that is routinely disrupted by floods.
He further shares that 5 acres of land that is close to the main road has been granted to the school for relocation, and he hopes that this relocation will happen soon. It is important to note that despite its many difficulties, the school is the only cluster school out of 12 Tamil schools in Segamat.
Because there is a lack of funds, the school has not been able to relocate. I have sent a request letter about this matter to Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, suggesting that a little money be allocated to this project yearly until the entire relocation of the school is completed.
– Yuveneshwaran Ramaraj, Segamat Member of Parliament
MP Yuveneshwaran Ramaraj had graciously awarded the school RM100,000 to aid in this matter of relocation. The faster this school is relocated to its suitable location, the better it is for the Tamil students of Segamant, to gain another educational institute where they can sharpen their minds, cultivate their ambitions, and develop as future leaders.
