George Town Literary Festival (GTLF), one of the most highly acclaimed and anticipated literary festivals in Malaysia, will be happening from November 23–26. This event, which celebrates and critically engages with the art of literature across borders and languages, will feature 35 writers from 13 different countries. This year, the Tamil portion of the festival will see the famous Tamil Nadu writer, Yuvan Chandrasekar.
The Tamil portion of the literary festival is jointly organised by Vallinam and GTLF. M. Navin, the festival curator and founder of the alternative and subversive literary magazine Vallinam, has organised two interesting Tamil literary programmes for this festival. The first programme will be centred on Tamil writers from Malaysia and Singapore, while the second will be led by and hosted by A. Pandian. It will feature Singaporean writer Sivananthan Neelakandan and Malaysian writers Abhirami Ganesan and Aravin Kumar.
As this Tamil programme is aimed at speaking on the universality of literature, internationally acclaimed writers, particularly those from Tamil Nadu, are invited as speakers to this festival. This year, the winner of the 2023 Vishnupuram Literary Award, Yuvan Chandrasekhar, will be gracing the event.
The programme revolving around Yuvan Chandrasekhar will be a deep analysis of the literary world of the writer’s creation. The writers from Singapore will be conducting a fruitful discourse on how to read and understand the works of the acclaimed writer.
The festival will also see two homegrown Tamil writers launch their books; A. Pandians Karuppu Thulligal and M. Navin’s Tara will be introducing their brand new works to the public at this wonderful event.
