Malik Streams and Varnam Malaysia have collaborated on many occasions to bring Malaysian Indians the finest and most entertaining of medias, and this Leo Special Screening Night is just another fantastic addition to our continued partnership. The two brands have come together throughout the Hearts of Harris concert franchise and for Yuvan 25—Live in Kuala Lumpur, along with numerous other occasions, to further uplift both national and international talents.
The special screening of Leo, which occurred on October 19 at the TGV Pavillion in Bukit Jalil, was dazzled with the presence of amazing local celebrities, popular personalities, socialites, and important media representatives. Dato’ Malik, the founder of Malik Streams and MS Gold, graciously attended the event with his fiery presence, where he kindly took photos with his supporters and greeted the special guests.
Malik Streams is one of the most vital and vivacious companies that delivers on production and movie distribution worldwide. Most recently, the company has organised an upcoming concert with the super talented and renowned music composer, Vijay Anthony, that is all set to happen on October 29 at the Axiata Arena.
Varnam Malaysia, on the other hand, is one of the leading digital media companies that centres on providing the best of both Indian and Malaysian Indian entertainment, cultural, and social news to Malaysian and international readers. The media group is also one that firmly roots itself in bringing forth Malaysian Indian stories that have not been highlighted before, and it also stands to spotlight talented local individuals towards an international audience.
The Special Screening had also organised an exciting preliminary event that took place before the film screening. The event was hosted by Kogu and the games portion of the event has aided by Dharshamini Kesavan, who both greatly entertained and amazed the guests that arrived with their wit, humour, and ability to capture the unwavering attention of the audience members.
This segment also included many fun activities such as charades, quizzes, and a short game of 10 Endrathukulle which was organised by Flickss. The eagerly engaged audience members were also given an amazing chance to win free tickets to witness Vijay Anthony live at his concert in Kuala Lumpur.
Many of the guests were excited to immerse themselves in the world of Leo. People could be seen taking loads of pictures with the wonderfully assembled posters that were erected by the organising team. There were many who were dancing and cheering, taking as many pictures as possible so as to forever archive this unforgettable experience of witnessing this highly anticipated film on the big screen.
There was even a 360-degree camera that everyone got the opportunity to try out. Dato’ Malik himself, along with his close associates, came forth to try the photo booth out. It has become an integral part of events to have this exciting new motion capture accessible to the exclusive guests, for it gives a rich experience in capturing their moments in a cinematic way.
All the invitees collected their assigned tickets at the special registration counter and proceeded to have some light refreshments provided at a comfortable lounging area for all the invited personalities to enjoy and relax at before the screening of the film. The movie, which began around 8 p.m., gripped the audience with a nearly three-hour runtime of power-packed action and cutting-edge cinematography.
Leo was an intriguing and interesting venture, particularly on the technical side of cinematography. Director Lokesh Kanagaraj has stated that the film was created to be an exciting and entertaining theatrical experience, which the film successfully delivered on. The script of the film is primarily driven by the visual language of action; not just the physical fight scenes, but the whole landscape of the action sequence was instrumentalized and utilised for the entertainment of the audience. While the action and grit of the film were central, the emotional plot, although subdued, helped with the pull of the film, though some might rightfully state that the characters of the film felt very one-dimensional and underdeveloped.
Vijay gave a substantial performance as both a mass killing machine and a middle-aged family man who cares for his loved ones. The duality of both characterization and emotions was nicely brought out and was enjoyable to watch, as it did increase the suspense among the audience if there were indeed two characters or just one character that is hiding his true identity.
While many were very excited to watch the acting depth of the likes of Mysskin, Sandy, and Mansoor Ali Khan, who all did wonderful in their roles, their run time and character development fell too short and abrupt for the audiences to truly appreciate their roles in the film. Overall, the action and thriller elements of the film, along with its gripping cinematography, made it a sure-fire visual pleasure for those who love an immersive cinematic experience.
