“Badep” becomes the first local Tamil series written, directed, produced and acted by a social media content creator, Joshua Michael. It premieres on 13 November 2023, 9pm on Astro Vinmeen (Ch 202) via TV, Astro GO and On Demand. Astro customers can enjoy this series during their Deepavali celebration.

With much pride, from social media content creator to a versatile filmmaker, Joshua Michael has made an impressive leap into the world of Malaysian Tamil cinema industry. Armed with creative prowess, he has written, directed, produced, and even taken the stage as an actor in a captivating series named “Badep“, a comedy drama series. Notably, this series had its first season launched on Joshua Michael‘s YouTube channel with 5 episodes.
Now, this series has reached a significant milestone where its Season 2 which features 19 episodes is gearing up to be premiered on Astro Vinmeen, channel 202. The transition from an independent online platform to mainstream television marks a significant step forward, promising a wider audience and greater recognition for Joshua Michael’s creative endeavors.
This Vinmeen Exclusive series stars popular local talents, including Joshua Michael, Agalyah Maniam, Elanmathi Elangovan, Eswaran NK, Vanishaa Rameas, Loganathan and many more artists. In the captivating narrative of “Badep“, Joshua and his team embark on a mission to reclaim ‘Babyma Bakery’, which they lost to a money lender. The essence of the storyline revolves around Joshua’s journey to Chennai, India, with the objective of retrieving the bakery from the money lender’s daughter. The plot unfolds as Joshua resorts to kidnap the daughter and leverage the situation to exert pressure on her father.
Moreover, the remarkable aspect of “Badep” lies in its inclusion of 13 songs, a feat that truly impresses. This is a great effort by the team. All the featured songs in “Badep” were crafted by the skilled homegrown music producers, Sid and Prem, collectively known as Music Kitchen. This duo from the Music Kitchen are emerging artists widely recognized in the local music scene. The crew of “Badep” had their series’ premiere and audio launch event recently, making it the first ever local Tamil series to have a theatrical premiere.
The highlight of the series includes the fresh visuals of Chennai, brilliantly crafted by Mathubalan Gunasogaran, the Director of Photography – which already made many heads turn after the release of the teaser recently. Mathubalan also wielded the camera for Badep’s first season.
