The Minister of Public Works, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanti Linggi, has announced that highway users will be granted toll exemptions for two days starting tomorrow, in celebration of the Deepavali holiday. The toll exemptions will begin at 12:01 midnight tonight and conclude on Sunday at 11:59 p.m.
During this period, toll exemptions will apply to all vehicle classes at toll plazas, except those located at state borders, namely the Gedung Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Toll Plaza and the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza in Johor. The initiative aims to celebrate all Malaysians, particularly the Indian Hindu community observing the Deepavali celebration and aligns with the government’s commitment to easing the burden on people of various religions, backgrounds, and beliefs.
The selected dates for toll exemptions were agreed upon by the Ministry of Public Works and the concession company to prevent traffic congestion during the return journey to villages and cities. The estimated total traffic on these two days is expected to reach 11.8 million vehicles.
The initiative also involves optimizing logistics operations, including traffic control, additional water sources, toilets, and other needs in lay-by areas and rest and care (R&R) areas along the highway, with the involvement of third parties. Highway users are encouraged to take advantage of this toll-free period and are advised to plan their journeys carefully, adhering to the recommended travel time advisory (TTA).
Safety and safe driving practices are emphasized to ensure that all highway users reach their destinations safely. Alexander also recommends checking traffic status and updates on highway incidents through the official social media channels of the Malaysian Leisure Facebook or Twitter @ LLMtrafik. This information will be periodically updated to assist highway users in planning their journeys. They also encourage people to contact the LLM Traffic Management Center at 1-800-88-7752 for the latest information on traffic conditions or assistance.
