Kaavilash Nair Jason Raj has been honoured with the Royal Education Award by the University Utara Malaysia, Kedah. He is the first ever Malaysian Indian to be a recipient of such a prestigious academic recognition. 24-year-old Kaavilash has always been a dedicated and well-rounded student and exemplary individual. Starting from his secondary school education at SMK Methodist, where he completed his SPM, to his Form Six studies at the Forest Heights Form Six College, right up to earning his Bachelor of Communication with Honours, graduating with a first-class distinction with a 3.86 GPA, at the University Utara Malaysia, Kaavilash has remained principled, unwavering, and unrelenting in his pursuit and drive for academic excellence.

It must also be mentioned that the love and support Kaavilash received from his father, Jason Raja Mariappan, and his mother, Kartiyany Anitha Ramanathan, along with his younger sister, have been foundational to his academic successes. It is through Kaavilash’s own discipline and the guidance of his parents that he has continuously, without fail, made it onto the deans list each and every semester. His outstanding academic achievements had prompted the Malaysian Public Service Department to award him a sponsorship under the Programme Ijazah Dalam Negara (PIDN).

Kaavilash is not only academically brilliant but also an all-rounded student with exceptional leadership and communication skills. He has been the Vice President of the Student Representative Council (2021–2022), President of the Communications Society (2020–2021), and Vice President of the Negeri Sembilan Patriotic Club (2021–2020). He also applied his educational theoretical knowledge by participating in industry-related programmes such as Duta Pelajar Maybank and NTV7 Padawan. His outstanding skill in organisation and leadership can also be seen in the way he executed his responsibility as Programme Director of Orientation Week for International Students (2022-2023). He has also meticulously and thoroughly directed many other programmes, such as the Liga Paintball PESKON, the Global Communication Forum, and programmes for Deepavali and National Day.

Some of Kaavilash’s other notable accolades are the Anugerah Merit Gemilang by UUM, along with the Tokoh Pelajar, and the Pelajar Aktif Komunikasi Award. The young leader has also represented the country in many international programmes such as the 2022 Discovery Camp Canada; in the same year, he also attended the Great World ASEAN Round Table Discussion in Thailand; and the ASEAN leadership programme in Indonesia in 2023. Kaavilash’s achievements are the amalgamations of his unwavering dedication towards success, the guiding love of his parents and family, and also the immense support that his friends have given him over the years. His achievement is one that is a beacon of hope for the Malaysian Indian community; his academic labour is one that can be seen as an inspiration for other Indian students to dedicatedly apply themselves in academics and in beneficial social programmes, so they can sharpen their scholarship, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills; the expansion of a student’s capability is a direct gain for the nation as a whole. Students like Kaavilash bear the immense and inspirational responsibility of leading the country into a brighter, more democratic, and more equal future for all.
