The University of Malaya is gearing up for its 63rd convocation ceremony, a significant milestone that marks the academic achievements of graduating students. As part of the festivities, the Department of Indian Studies, in collaboration with the OMS Foundation, is organizing a distinguished award ceremony to honor students who have demonstrated exceptional mastery in the field of Indian Studies.
The exclusive award ceremony is scheduled to take place on Sunday, November 26, from 2 pm to 6 pm at Dewan Kuliah A of the Social Science Arts Campus. This event holds special importance as it recognizes the academic excellence and dedication of students who have excelled in the study of Indian Studies.
A total of 18 outstanding students will be presented with gold medals during the ceremony. Among them, 15 are undergraduate students, 1 is a postgraduate student, and 2 are doctoral students. These students have not only exhibited exemplary academic performance but have also made significant contributions to the field of Indian Studies.
Distinguished personalities from various fields will be in attendance to grace the occasion. The Chairman of the OMS Foundation, the Chairman of Go Sarangapani Foundation, former Deputy Minister of Health Tan Sri Kumaran, the Chairman of the Social Science Arts Field Prof. Datuk Dr. Danny Wong Tse Ken, and the Chairman of the Department of Indian Studies, Dr. Sivapalan Govindasamy, will be among the esteemed guests. OMS P. Thiagarajan, a key figure associated with the foundation, will also be present to celebrate the achievements of the students.
It is worth noting that this tradition of recognizing excellence in Indian Studies began in 2007 with the inaugural gold medal award ceremony. The initiative was spearheaded by Dr. Kumaran Subramaniam, Associate Professor in the Department of Indian Studies, reflecting the commitment of the university to acknowledge and reward outstanding accomplishments in the field of academic pursuit.
As the convocation ceremony and the award ceremony approach, the University of Malaya anticipates a day of celebration, recognition, and inspiration for both the graduating students and those who have excelled in the specialized field of Indian Studies.
