Vikneshwaran Balakrishnan is an indie Malaysian Tamil artist who has just released his newest single, titled Irulin Mazhai. The song is a captivating trance into the painful world of love—the dread that comes along with the loss of that heavenly sentience. The beautiful and aching creation is also constructed intricately with a blend of genres and inspirations that gives it a unique expression. Vikneshwaran’s own painful lyrics and his captivating voices create this cosmic synergy in this melodious and gut-wrenching ballad. This song is incredibly personal and intimate for Vikneshwaran because it was born out of the grief of losing his late beloved brother. The song is a 15-month collaborative labour between music producer Thiru Lm, mix mastering by Darmen.R, and vocal engineering by DJ John. It was recorded incredibly carefully and intimately for two days in order for the song to perfectly encapsulate the essence and heartfelt tribute of the creation. The brilliant duality of this song is that it both reveals the trauma of love while also urging all to heal from the agony of it.
“This song comforts and heals those going through heartbreak, especially for people dealing with the pain of love. I wish this song finds a home in people’s hearts, especially those experiencing love’s pain.”

The multitalented Vikneshwaran started his journey in the field of music in 2018. The young talent is not only a singer but also a brilliant lyricist and scriptwriter. He initially began performing cover songs and participating in ‘Astro Superstar 2018’ before venturing out into creating his own original music. Vikneshwaran eloquently states that music is to him a form of deep expression that allows him to convey his most intimate and intricate emotions and thoughts to the world.
“I am a passionate singer who uses the art of music as a powerful medium of emotional expression. Through soulful melodies and heartfelt lyrics, and as a singer and lyricist too, I have embraced music as a canvas for articulating the depth of emotions. It allows me to create a connection that goes beyond words.”

Vikneshwaran, who sees Yuvan Shankar Raja and The Weeknd as his greatest musical inspirations, has also expressed how vital it is for Malaysian Tamil artists to have their own space to truly articulate the fascinating and eclectic cultural landscape that these artists come from. The support that the Malaysian Tamil community lends to homegrown artists is the nourishment that ultimately will aid in building and enhancing a greater cultural heritage for the community as a whole.
“Supporting independent music among local Malaysian Tamils is crucial because it empowers and promotes the unique voices and cultural expressions within the community, fostering a vibrant and diverse music scene that reflects their identity and experiences.”
