SJKT Ladang Dovenby, situated in Sungai Siput, Perak, recently organized a Festival of Unity, known as Orumaipaatu Vizha, to commemorate the spirit of togetherness among the school’s staff, teachers, and students. This event served as a poignant reminder of the significance of unity within our nation. The primary objective was to instill in students the understanding that, in our diverse and harmonious country, a sense of Malaysian identity should be nurtured from their early years in primary school.

The Festival of Unity at SJKT Ladang Dovenby was a vibrant celebration that brought together the entire school community. Through various activities and performances, the event aimed to foster a sense of camaraderie, mutual respect, and understanding among the diverse groups within the school. The underlying message was clear: unity is a cornerstone of our society, and it is crucial to instill this value in the younger generation. The legendary poet Baarathiyar has empahasized this in his lines: Muppathu kodi mugamudaiyaal, Uyir moipura ondrudaiyal.

The headmistress of the school Madam Rajammal Veerasamy says, “If every student initiates the process of transcending distinctions based on caste, religion, and language during their school days, the nation will naturally undergo transformative change and progress. In this country, individuals of diverse religions, languages, ethnicities, and customs coexist. A truly unified Malaysia can only emerge when they unite not only in thought but also in words and actions. Today’s students are the future leaders of our nation. Therefore, fostering a sense of unity among students is imperative. Their role in cultivating this unity is of immense importance.”

Furthermore, the captivating aspect of the event was the participation of teachers and students from three Chinese schools and three national schools in Sungai Siput. They adorned themselves in traditional attire representing various ethnicities. The event was also honored by the presence of the Deputy Education Officer of the Kuala Kangsar district, who officiated the event.

Through such celebrations and educational endeavors, schools play a vital role in shaping the values and perspectives of young minds, contributing to the building of a harmonious and united nation.
