MICA Awards 3rd Edition Is Happening On 1st February 2024

The Malaysian Tamil entertainment industry has undergone remarkable evolution, reaching unprecedented heights in recent times. Each artist within this vibrant community dedicates themselves to delivering exceptional performances, constantly striving to provide audiences with the finest entertainment experiences. Recognizing the invaluable contributions of these talented individuals, it becomes imperative to celebrate their efforts and showcase appreciation. Awards, recognition, and applause from the audience serve as the primary sources of motivation for artists to continually enhance their performances.

In light of this, the Malaysian Indian Creative Awards (MICA) has emerged as a beacon of acknowledgment and recognition for the true talents within the industry. It plays a pivotal role in motivating artists to continually elevate their craft by providing a platform that honors their dedication and hard work. By acknowledging the exceptional achievements of artists, MICA contributes significantly to the growth and sustainability of the Malaysian Tamil entertainment industry, ensuring that deserving talents receive the recognition they rightfully deserve.  The MICA Awards ceremony, organized by RG Creations, is scheduled to take place on the 1st of February 2024 (Thursday) at the HGH Convention Centre in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur. The red carpet affair will commence at 5 pm, setting the stage for an evening of glamour and celebration, while the awards show is slated to begin at 7 pm. MICA Awards ceremony is presented by Thamarai Jewels and co-presented by Indya and 9Skin. The distinguished event will be officiated by the Minister of Communications, YB Fahmi Ahmad Fadzil. Dato’ Azmir Saifuddin Bin Mutalib, the Chief Executive Officer of FINAS Malaysia, will grace the event with his presence.

To kickstart the festivities, the opening act will feature a DJ spinning tunes and musical performances. Attendees can look forward to captivating performances by Ti-Amo and the KJ dancers, as well as a showcase of dance and talents by Malaysian artists. Following these engaging performances, the highly anticipated segment of the event will unfold—the award presentation. This momentous occasion will be complemented by the launch of a new music video, adding an extra layer of excitement to the proceedings. The press conference of MICA Awards took place yesterday at LFS PJ State.

The Malaysian Indian Creative Industry has experienced notable advancements, evolving and gaining maturity year after year, leading to the creation of top-notch films. Recognizing this positive trajectory, MICA is committed to granting well-deserved acknowledgment and credibility to the talented creative teams in Malaysia. The MICA Awards will be an annual event, contingent upon the availability of a minimum of 6-8 high-quality movies released in Malaysian theaters during the respective year.

A total of 50 awards, spanning various categories, will be presented during this prestigious event. The commitment to honoring excellence within the Malaysian Indian Creative Industry is expected to not only acknowledge outstanding achievements but also contribute to raising the overall standards of creativity and innovation in the industry. A panel of Independent Jury appointed by the organizers determines the winners, while the category of ‘Most Popular Awards’ is determined through public voting.

The objective of MICA is to HONOUR the excellence in Malaysian Indian Creative Industry. It also aims to PROMOTE the Malaysian Indian Creative Industry and its uniqueness to a worldwide audience. Followed by that, MICA also serves to ENCOURAGE the people in Malaysian Indian Creative Industry to produce more quality and entertaining movies. The final objective MICA is to ENRICH the Malaysian Indian Creative Industry by bringing exceptional stars to the spotlight.

The MICA Awards ceremony stand out as a professionally organized and prestigious award show, distinguishing itself with a panel of independent jurors comprised of industry experts and professionals. Recognized as one of the largest Malaysian film award shows, it boasts over 50 categories, bringing together a grand assembly of Malaysian artists and celebrities for a star-studded celebration on the glittering red carpet. Remarkably, it holds the distinction of being the first Malaysian Indian award show broadcasted on television. With endorsements and support from key entities such as KK (KKMM), FINAS, and Tourism Malaysia, as well as backing from over 15 Creative Industry NGOs, the MICA Awards truly encapsulate a 100% Malaysian-owned spectacle, featuring performances, artists, hosts, songs, and dances. This spectacular occasion captivates an extensive audience of over 10 million viewers through live transmissions, television broadcasts, radio airings, social media engagement, and press coverage. Beyond its glitz and glamour, the MICA Awards serve as a proven networking platform, facilitating connections between outstanding talents and filmmakers to collaboratively produce high-quality projects.

The Distinguished Juries

Hassan Abd Muthalib

Hassan Abd Muthalib, widely regarded as the Father of Malaysian Animation, is a multifaceted creative professional known for his roles as a designer, animator, animation director, writer, and film director. His remarkable portfolio includes noteworthy works in animated shorts, documentaries, and feature films, with the acclaimed “Silat Lagenda” standing out among them. His contributions to the field have been formally recognized through an honorary masters in Creative Technology, underscoring his substantial impact. Beyond his creative endeavors, he is esteemed as a respected film critic and historian, having authored extensive writings and conducted in-depth research on film and animation, further solidifying his legacy in the Malaysian creative landscape.

TS. Dr. Vimala Perumal

TS. Dr. Vimala Perumal is a distinguished film director, producer, and writer, renowned for her exceptional contributions to the cinematic world. She is best recognized for her outstanding work in the Pasanga trilogy, a critically acclaimed series of films that has garnered numerous national and international awards. Alongside her achievements in filmmaking, Dr. Vimala Perumal holds the position of a senior lecturer at Multimedia University, Cyberjaya. Notably, she has made significant scholarly contributions through diligent work on various books and journal publications. Dr. Vimala Perumal holds the distinction of being the first female film director in Malaysia with a Ph.D., marking a groundbreaking achievement in her illustrious career.

Parthiban Seetha Reddy

Parthiban Seetha Reddy, with an impressive 34 years of experience in the TV and film industry, has left an indelible mark as an executive producer, producer, director, event organizer, scriptwriter, and consultant for TV and film production. His prolific career includes a significant contribution to over 1000 TV programs as a producer, director, and executive Producer for Vaanavil’s in-house production house, including RTM.

G. Manoharan

G. Manoharan, a seasoned professional with 36 years of experience, has made a substantial impact in the television industry, particularly during his tenure as a former TV producer at RTM. Having contributed to numerous TV productions, he has demonstrated a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the field. Presently, G. Manoharan is leveraging his extensive experience to educate and inspire the next generation of filmmakers as a lecturer in Film Making at CATS International College.
