In an era of global linguistic development, deliberate attempts are being made to support the Tamil language by utilizing linguistic innovations and guaranteeing its survival for the next generations. In this attempt, the Tamil community in Malaysia, in particular, has gotten involved. The 2024 Mathematical Conference, recently conducted in Tamil Nadu, provides an important forum for promoting the collaborative development of language technology.

Reflecting on the past events, the government of Tamil Nadu had previously organized the historic conference known as “TAMIL NET 99” in 1999. Elanttamil Maruthai, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Malaya, states that this initiative’s revival after 25 years in the form of “KaniTamil Conference 24” highlights its ongoing value.

Elanttamil highlighted the crucial function of artificial intelligence in molding modern linguistic discourse, namely via channels like machine learning and machine translation, specifically in LLM. He emphasized the need for ongoing efforts and projects to advance technologies relevant to the Tamil language.

The conference attracted participants from all around the world, which is especially notable since it indicates a common commitment to fostering interest in and skill in the Tamil language. Elanttamil encouraged students in Malaysia to actively participate in the Tamil language and culture, seeing it as a powerful instrument for their future pursuits.

The inspirational creator of Murasu Systems, Malaysia, Muthu Nedumaran, led a workshop during the conference. Nedumaran reflected on the event and expressed his happiness at the large turnout, which included professionals and students alike actively engaging in involved tasks that explored text strings in Tamil and English using regular expressions.
