The International Women’s Day Forum is an event organised by the Black Shirt Youth Movement on coming Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the Malaysian Association for the Blind, Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur. The forum will have several prominent women professionals from various fields and industries that will be coming together to share their diverse intellectual and social experiences while also educating and illuminating other women to uplift themselves by contributing to civil society. The theme of their talk is aptly titled “Women Are…” to capture the critical nature of gender in society and also its incredibly multitudes of expressions and states of being.

This event, in recognition of the significance of women in the development of society, has planned not only a forum but also a photography exhibition that will take place at the same location, the Malaysian Association for the Blind, at 5 p.m. showcasing works by women photographers that delve into the similar theme of “Women Are…”.

Since the invention of the camera, the power of the photograph has been utilised by those in authority to marginalise the narratives of many subjugated communities, and over time, by the many revolutions for liberty, the power of the photograph has been reclaimed by many communities to express themselves with truth and dignity. This photography exhibition for women bears this powerful reclamation movement, giving oppressed women the platform to express their social and political perspective through the instrument of art.
