Masi Magam, a significant Hindu festival, is revered for its profound impact on the lives of Hindus. Typically observed in the months of February or March, this auspicious occasion aligns with the Masi month and coincides with the Magam nakshatra according to the Hindu lunar calendar. Celebrated only once a year, Masi Magam holds great importance, serving as a unique full moon day believed to offer a chance for individuals to cleanse themselves of sins and negative karma.

This year, Masi Magam is scheduled for February 24, 2024, falling on a Saturday. In commemoration of this auspicious occasion, Sri Maha Mariamman Devasthanam in Kuala Lumpur has planned a grand celebration. The festivities will include a notable chariot procession as part of the Masi Magam festivities.

On this significant day, special poojas are scheduled to take place at 5pm at the Batu Caves temple, Swami Mandapam. Following these rituals, the chariot processions of the revered deities, Sri Ganesar and Sri Varatharajar Swami, will commence from the Batu Caves Temple. Accompanied by auspicious instruments, the processions will traverse through the designated route, ultimately arriving at the Sri Maha Mariamman Devasthanam in Kuala Lumpur around midnight, marking the culmination of this auspicious journey. This elaborate event is expected to be a manifestation of religious fervor and cultural celebration, uniting devotees in a spiritual spectacle.

Traditionally, the annual chariot procession embarks on its sacred journey from Sentul market to the Mariamman Devasthanam. However, to infuse even more joy and divine significance into this year’s celebration, a notable departure from tradition is planned. The chariot will commence its procession from the revered grounds of the Batu Caves temple.
