AirAsia is intensifying efforts to enhance convenient and economical air travel between Malaysia and India. As of now the company is offering 14 routes with plans for further expansion throughout India. This idea was shared during an exclusive roundtable discussion in Chennai, led by AirAsia’s Chief of Airport & Customer Experience, Mr. Kesavan Sivanandam, in the presence of Mr. Saravana Kumar Kumaravasagam, Consul General of Malaysia in Chennai, and Mr. Razaidi Abd. Rahim, Director of South India and Sri Lanka of Tourism Malaysia, along with over 20 media representatives from both nations.
The airline’s extensive network has facilitated over 5 million passengers in the past six years, connecting countries like India, Malaysia, and beyond. This idea of increasing connectivity follows the announcement of visa-free entry for Indian citizens visiting Malaysia by the government. Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group Limited, expressed pride in their commitment to democratising air travel and making it accessible to a wider audience in India, emphasising inclusivity. He reflected on the airline’s humble beginnings two decades ago, pioneering low-cost travel in the region, and acknowledged the significant progress in flying to various Indian routes from major hubs.
Consul General Saravana Kumar Kumaravasagam commended AirAsia for fostering connectivity between the nations, making travel affordable, and nurturing the adventurous spirit among people. He anticipated increased travel, particularly with the Malaysian government’s visa-free initiative, foreseeing collaborative opportunities between the two countries.
To mark this expansion, AirAsia is offering special promotional fares starting from RM249 all-in-one-way for flights to all its destinations from Kuala Lumpur, valid until March 10, 2024, for travel until March 30, 2024. The airline presently operates 14 cities in India directly from Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok, with flights conducted by AirAsia Malaysia and AirAsia X Malaysia, providing extensive coverage across the region.
