Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Scholarships Are Now Open for Applications

Malaysian citizens who meet the eligibility criteria are invited to apply for the prestigious Yang di-Pertuan Agong Scholarship (BYDPA) for the year 2024. The application period, which commenced on 4th March 2024, will continue until March 29 2024.

The Public Service Department (JPA), in a recent statement, announced that this highly esteemed government-sponsored scholarship is aimed at supporting postgraduate studies at the Master’s (Research) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) level. The scholarship covers fields such as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), economics, law, Islamic finance, and artificial intelligence (AI). The scholarship allows for students to pursue their education at either the national or international level.

Applicants can submit the online application form through the portal https://bmipenajaan.jpa.gov.my from March 4 to March 29, 2024.

According to the statement, the completed application form along with relevant supporting documents must be submitted and received by the JPA either through hand delivery or mail before or on April 5th 2024.

Application Requirements for BYDPA 2024:

  • Eligibility:
    • Malaysian citizen
    • Not more than 35 years as of January 1 of the current year
  • Academic Achievements:
    • Outstanding academic performance is required.
    • For Master’s candidates:
      • Recognised government undergraduate degree.
      • Minimum CGPA of 3.75, or first class, or equivalent.
    • For PhD candidates:
      • Recognised government undergraduate and Master’s degree.
      • Minimum CGPA of 3.75 or equivalent.
  • Study Status:
    • Applicants must have:
      • Received an unconditional offer, or
      • Commenced full-time studies in 2024.
  • Institutional Criteria:
    • Studies should be at local or internationally recognised Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
    • HEIs must be listed by the JPA.
    • Selection based on respective fields of study.
  • Cocurricular Criteria 
    • Applicants are required to engage in creative and innovative work such as writing, artistic or technological inventions.
    • Advantage for master’s; mandatory for PhD.

Priority will be given to candidates actively participating in co-curricular activities or community activities.

Applications must ensure all eligibility criteria are met before submitting the application.

Application Process

Applications that meet the criteria and pass the JPA’s initial screening will be shortlisted for interviews.
