The prevailing scorching and arid conditions across the nation are anticipated to ease as we approach the onset of April, marking the transition into the monsoon season. This shift in weather patterns typically brings relief from the relentless heat and parched landscapes. As April dawns, we can expect a gradual change in atmospheric conditions, heralding the arrival of moisture-laden air masses and the promise of rainfall. This transition period signifies a significant shift in the climate, offering respite from the oppressive dry spell that has persisted thus far.
According to Maqrun Fadzli Mohd Fahmi, the director of the National Weather and Geophysics Operation Centre, this stage occurs when the prevailing wind direction changes from the northeast to the southwest monsoon. During the monsoon transition phase, wind patterns typically result in thunderstorm activity in the late afternoon. It is anticipated that this weather pattern will commence around early April.
“The hot and dry weather will persist for another week, but we hope that with the occurrence of more rainfall during this monsoon transition phase, it will help alleviate the current high temperatures,” he said when appearing as a guest on Bernama TV’s Apa Khabar Malaysia programme today.
In the meantime, he emphasized the ongoing collaboration between MetMalaysia and the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) to execute cloud seeding operations as necessary to improve the distribution of rainfall. He assured that any relevant updates will be communicated periodically.
Significantly, in response to the intense heat, students have been granted the flexibility to attire themselves in sportswear for school during this particular period. This adjustment acknowledges the challenging weather conditions and aims to provide students with greater comfort and suitability for the prevailing climate.
As the nation anticipates relief from the scorching heat with the onset of the monsoon transition phase, it becomes imperative for the public to prioritize their well-being and safety. In the interim, it is advisable for the public to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, and ensure the well-being of children, including allowing them to wear suitable attire for the prevailing weather conditions. These precautions will help mitigate the risks associated with the current hot and dry weather, ensuring the safety and health of individuals across the nation.
