The admission of four Malaysians to Harvard College marks a significant milestone not only for the individuals involved but also for Malaysia as a whole. The attainment of such prestigious academic recognition underscores the exceptional talent and academic prowess present within the Malaysian community.
Four Malaysians have been admitted to Harvard College, the undergraduate school of Harvard University, for the new academic year, graduating in 2028. Among the select group of international students admitted from 94 countries, Thamini Vijeyasingam, Bryan Lim, Victor Ngow, and Elisa See earned this outstanding achievement, representing Malaysia’s academic representative on a worldwide basis. They are among the 15.4% of international students selected across 94 countries to attend Harvard College.
Thamini Vijeyasingam, a former student of ELC International School in Sungai Buloh, plans to study economics and philosophy. After completing her A-Levels, Thamini Vijeyasingam took a gap year and worked as an intern for Free Malaysia Today (FMT) and KAF Investment Bank. In addition, she participated in the Model UN debate and local, national, and international competitions, as stated in FMT.
In a statement, Nadiah Wan of the Harvard Club of Malaysia said the other three selected students were Lim, an IGCSE student at Garden International School, Ngow, an SPM student at SMK Damansara Utama, and See, who graduated from Marlborough College Malaysia. Lim wants to major in computer science and applied mathematics; Ngow will pursue either environmental science and public policy or environmental engineering; and See intends to major in government (political science) and economics or computer science.
