After securing a spot in the Paris 2024 Olympics, the country’s women’s doubles pair, M Thinaah and Pearly Tan, is now focused on finding the perfect formula to be consistent in the matches and provide an amazing performance in the world’s biggest athletic championship. The dates of the 2024 Paris Olympics are set for July 26 to August 11.
The world number 14 has recaptured some of their previous form after a poor few months, but they are still plagued by inconsistency, particularly in close matches. The issue arose again in the recent Asian Championships, as Thinaah-Pearly lost 21-19, 13-21, 16-21 to Japan’s previous two-time world champions Mayu Matsumoto-Wakana Nagahara in the first round in Ningbo, China.
Pearly stated that they are working with the coaching team to develop a technique for detecting the weaknesses and strengths of playing patterns through video analysis. She also mentioned, “The coach has talked to us about the same mistakes that we made in the last few games. We must have been less consistent when we were leading in the first game, which we lost. We’re trying to figure out how to fix the issue. After attending a training session at the Malaysian Badminton Academy recently, she stated, “We have not heard anything from the coaches regarding training abroad because they are focusing on the players competing in the 2024 Uber Cup.”
When asked whether they would jointly decide how many competitions to play in before the Olympics, Pearly replied that the coaching staff would make that decision because they are the ones who are most familiar with their playing abilities.”We don’t have any injuries, but we still need to concentrate on strengthening up because there are a lot of high-stakes competitions. I want to compete in the Olympics, so I’m ready from the start, but I also need to take care of my physical health and build up my muscles,” said Pearly.
Thinaah-Pearly will be Malaysia’s lone representatives, with their next objective being The Malaysian Masters, which will take place at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil from May 21 to 26.
