Kamal Hassan’s transition from acting to politics, while ambitious, has not been a smooth ride.

The outspoken president of the Makkal Needhi Maiam party, made some sensitive remarks by terming Nathuram Godse, who had killed Mahatma Gandhi, a “Hindu terrorist”. His remarks at a speech has caused an uproar of chaos and protests. Police security was ordered around Kamal Hassan’s Alwarpet residence after there were threats of protests.

His speech was said to promote enmity between religions and have been met with heavy criticism. A complaint was filed against Kamal Hassan and his party at the Election Commission, demanding a ban on the actor’s party. His comment would have grievous impacts for allegedly hurting religious sentiments by terming Nathuram Godse a “Hindu terrorist”.
