A former actor and inspirational figurehead of the DMDK party, Captain Vijayakanth received the Padma Bhushan Award posthumously, India’s third-highest civilian accolade.
This prestigious honor is a testament to Captain Vijayakanth’s outstanding achievement in Indian cinema and represents his long-lasting influence on the creative and entertainment sectors. Despite his death on 28th December 2023, his legacy remains in touch with his audience, particularly in Tamil Nadu, where he was fondly regarded as ” Captain” by his devoted admirers.
The official Padma Bushan Award presentation to Captain Vijayakanth’s family is still waiting, Premalatha, DMDK General Secretary and Treasurer has declared the award ceremony will take place on 9 May in Delhi.Mrs.Premalatha feels very exuberant that she and her son will be going to attend the award ceremony in Delhi.
This gesture by the Indian Government has received tremendous gasps, recognizing the gems’ major contribution to the cultural community of Tamil Cinema.

Actor and politician Vijayaraj Alagarswami (25 August 1952 – 28 December 2023), popularly known by his stage as Vijayakanth, was an Indian who worked in Tamil film. Over the course of four decades, he appeared in more than 150 films. His roles in the films Amman Kovil Kizhakale (1986), Poonthotta Kaavalkaaran (1988), Senthoora Poove (1988), Pulan Visaranai (1990), Honest Raj (1994), Chinna Gounder (1992), Thayagam (1996), and Vaanathaippola (2000) made him well-known.

Chinna Gounder
Chinna Gounder film directed in 1992 by R. V. Udayakumar, starring Vijayakanth, Sukanya, Manorama, Salim Ghouse, Sathyapriya, Goundamani, Senthil and Vadivelu. It was released on 15 January 1992, during Pongal. The film was remade in Telugu as Chinarayudu, and in Kannada as Chikkejamanru.Vijayakanth, who had previously played a gruff character, was presented as a soft-spoken village chieftain in this film. The film was vastly different from Vijayakanth’s previous performances.
In the latter part of Vijaykanth’s acting career, this film was made. The film, which was directed by Vikraman, tells the story of a kind brother who goes above and beyond to make sure his three younger brothers have happy lives. The next year, it won the National Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment with Vijayakanth in a dual role. After playing in theaters for more than 250 days, Vanathai Pola went on to become the most financially successful Tamil movie ever.

Ramanaa, directed by AR Murugadoss, was Vijaykanth’s final decent picture before embarking on a career of duds and bidding farewell to film in order to enter politics. In the movie, Vijayakanth plays Ramana, who seeks to completely eradicate corruption with the aid of his former students who are now employed by different government agencies. For this movie, AR Murugadoss took home the Best Dialogue Writer trophy at the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards.
