AirAsia’s latest venture into India’s vibrant travel market marks a significant milestone on May 3, 2024, linking Ahmedabad, India’s inaugural UNESCO World Heritage City, to Kuala Lumpur, the bustling capital of Malaysia. The commencement of this new route emphasises AirAsia’s commitment to bolstering air connectivity within the region while offering affordable travel options to passengers.

With four weekly flights, this service opens up a gateway for travellers to seamlessly immerse themselves in the cultural richness of Ahmedabad and the dynamic urban landscape of Kuala Lumpur. The inaugural flight, AK90, witnessed a full house, reflecting the enthusiasm and anticipation among passengers for this new connection. Notably, the event was graced by dignitaries from both AirAsia and Tourism Malaysia, emphasising the strategic significance of this route.

Tourism Malaysia’s Deputy Director for the South Asia Unit, Solehuddin Ahmad, lauded AirAsia’s efforts in expanding air links between India and Malaysia, highlighting the mutual benefits for travellers and the tourism industry. He underscored the importance of affordability in enhancing travel accessibility, particularly in light of recent policy changes facilitating visa-free entry for Indian nationals into Malaysia.

Paul Carroll, AirAsia’s Group Chief Commercial Officer, expressed excitement over the airline’s growing presence in India, recognising the country as a pivotal market for expansion. He emphasised AirAsia’s commitment to not only facilitating travel to Malaysia but also enabling seamless onward connections to other destinations through its fly-through options.
