Before the match between CSK and RCB at the 17th edition of the IPL, director Shankar and actor Kamal Haasan, who star in the upcoming film “Indian 2,” joined the commentators in the Tamil commentary box. They shared insights about their highly anticipated film, slated to release in July. “Indian 2” serves as the sequel to the 1996 cult classic “Indian,” also directed by Shankar and featuring Kamal Haasan in the lead role.
Shankar revealed that initially, he hadn’t planned for a third installment. He only had the story outlined in his mind. However, during filming, they realized the script was extensive. They were reluctant to trim any parts as it would dilute the essence of the narrative. Recognizing the potential for a standalone third part within the script, they decided to incorporate portions of the full script into both “Indian 2” and “Indian 3.”
Kamal Haasan expressed that he agreed to do “Indian 2” only after Shankar shared the storyline of “Indian 3” alongside it. The duo confirmed that “Indian 2” is scheduled to hit screens in July, followed by the release of “Indian 3” six months later. There are speculations that “Indian 3” might hit screens as a Pongal 2025 release. Additionally, it’s reported that the audio launch of “Indian 2” may take place on June 1st. Kamal Haasan is set to reprise his role as Senapathy, the freedom fighter turned vigilante, in both “Indian 2” and “Indian 3”.
“Indian 2,” an action-packed film, boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Kamal Haasan, Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, Bobby Simha, Rakul Preet Singh, SJ Suryah, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Samuthirakani, Kalidas Jayaram, and other renowned stars. The film features music by Anirudh Ravichander. While the official release plan for the movie is yet to be announced by the makers, the cast for “Indian 3” remains undisclosed. Kamal Haasan has kickstarted the movie’s promotional activities and is currently in Mumbai.
